Reportedly attempted after becoming frustrated with conduct of police personnel, officials, transport representatives

A truck driver allegedly attempted to set himself on fire at the Sakhi Sarwar Combined Checkpost in Dera Ghazi Khan, reportedly after becoming frustrated with the conduct of police personnel, officials and transport representatives said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at the checkpost, located on the entry route to Punjab.
Police said the driver, identified as Musharraf, allegedly poured oil over himself and set himself alight.
Police personnel present at the checkpost intervened, restrained the driver and extinguished the flames, preventing further injury.
Musharraf was initially shifted to the Teaching Hospital in Dera Ghazi Khan for medical treatment. Due to the severity of his burns, doctors referred him to the burn unit at Nishtar Hospital in Multan, where he was reportedly receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated.
According to police spokesperson and Sakhi Sarwar SHO Shehzad Afzal, Musharraf’s younger brother, Anar Gul, who was travelling with him in the truck, told investigators that Musharraf had previously attempted to harm himself.
The police official said the family had been concerned about his mental condition and that, according to his brother, he had apparently repeated the act.
