Leaders of the Pashtun Awami Jirga have called for the protection of the rights of Pashtuns in Karachi and equal rights for all communities living in Sindh. They said any discriminatory policy against Pashtuns in Karachi or elsewhere in Sindh was unacceptable.
Addressing a press conference at the KPC on Tuesday, Jirga leaders Irfanullah Marwat, Lala Saeed, Sajid Chagharzai, Shireen Khan, Azam Khan and others said Karachi and Sindh belonged to all Pashtuns as much as to other communities, adding that Pashtuns had been living in the region for centuries.
They said Pashtuns had always played an important role in the development and progress of Pakistan.
The leaders stressed that they did not support the division of Karachi but stood for a strong, peaceful and equal Pakistan. “Our voice is for unity, equality and peace,” they said, adding that they opposed all forms of discrimination, prejudice and bias.
They called for an organised and effective policy to address the problems facing Karachi and Sindh, with particular emphasis on maintaining law and order.
