The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) extended its recent losses in morning trade on Friday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index falling 1,264.14 points, or 0.74 percent, to 170,475.30 by the time the market was suspended for Friday prayers.
The index opened on a weaker note and briefly touched an intra-day high of 171,208.55 before sliding to a low of 169,512.88. It remained well below the previous close of 171,739.44 when trading was paused.
Volume stood at 114.23 million shares, while the value of shares traded reached Rs7.83 billion.
Market status was marked as suspended, the routine Friday break observed across the exchange for Jummah prayers. Trading is due to resume after the pause.
The early decline kept the market on the back foot, with investors remaining cautious amid ongoing selling pressure.
Brokers said selective profit-taking in heavier stocks contributed to the slide, though detailed sectoral moves were not immediately available at suspension.

Friday’s morning session saw the index move within a range of nearly 1,700 points between its high and low, reinforcing the softer tone seen in recent sessions.
Investors will now look to the post-prayer session for any signs of stabilisation or further weakness as the trading week approaches its close.
