LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) has upheld the life imprisonment of a convict in a rape and murder case involving a seven-year-old girl, ruling that the trial court’s decision was legally sound and supported by strong evidence.
Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan issued a detailed judgment while dismissing the appeal filed by convict Muhammad Mujahid. In the verdict, the court observed that there was “not the slightest doubt” regarding the involvement of the accused in the crime.
It noted that the convict failed to establish his innocence, while the prosecution successfully proved its case through credible evidence and witness testimonies.
The judgment highlighted that forensic analysis, including DNA evidence, matched the victim. It further stated that crucial itemssuch as the victim’s clothes, earrings and slipperswere recovered from the possession of the accused, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
The case was registered in Khushab on the complaint of the victim’s mother, Shaheen Noor, following the rape and murder of her daughter.
The trial court had earlier sentenced the convict to life imprisonment in 2022.
After reviewing the complete record and evidence, the high court maintained the sentence and dismissed the appeal.
