The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to purchase 50 additional buses at a cost of Rs4.989 billion to expand the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system to areas currently located away from the existing route.
According to officials, the 12-metre-long battery-electric buses will be deployed on five proposed BRT extension routes. These include Mall of Hayatabad to Jamrud, Pashtakhara to Bara Bazaar via Bara Road, Gulbahar to Dabgari Garden, Shah Alam Bridge to Naguman, and
an extension of the Kohat Adda route.
The government will also procure 15 chargers, Intelligent Transport System (ITS) equipment and other essential accessories for the new buses. Officials said 52 buses have already been purchased for the BRT expansion, of which 25 have arrived in Peshawar, while the remaining 27 are expected to reach the city soon.
With the purchase of another 50 buses, the total fleet of the Peshawar BRT system will rise to 346 buses.
