New Zealand have named Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert in split squads for their five-match home ODI series against India, starting on November 4.
White-ball captain Mitchell Santner will lead both groups, with seven players joining the squad for the final two matches as the Black Caps assess their depth ahead of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Ravindra, who missed the preceding T20I series against India with a shoulder injury, has been included for the first three ODIs.
Allen and Ferguson return to the ODI setup for the first time since the 2023 World Cup, while Seifert last featured in the format against Pakistan 18 months ago.
New Zealand will also manage workloads with a two-Test series against India to follow. Red-ball players will leave the ODI squad after the third match to prepare for the first Test in Wellington on November 19.
Head coach Rob Walter said the series offered an opportunity to evaluate players ahead of the next World Cup while ensuring adequate preparation for the World Test Championship campaign.
“With the ODI World Cup just one year away it’s important for us to also view these matches as valuable preparation for that event,” Walter said.
“Bringing in seven players for the final ODIs allows us to test our depth and see how those players fare against a world-class side.”
Walter added that the importance of World Test Championship points had prompted the team to release some players early for additional preparation.
Zak Foulkes, Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears were unavailable for selection as they continue their injury rehabilitation.
