ISLAMABAD:

Convicted lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha have filed miscellaneous applications in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking an early hearing of their petitions for suspension of sentence in the controversial tweets case.

The applications, filed through advocates Faisal Siddiqi and Zainab Janjua, requested the court to fix the sentence suspension petitions for hearing during the week beginning July 27.

They submitted that their sentence suspension applications had originally been fixed for hearing on July 24, when the prosecution—the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA)—raised objections regarding their maintainability.

The applications stated that the court has since dismissed the prosecution’s objections challenging the maintainability of the petitions. The petitioners, therefore, requested the court to schedule the sentence suspension applications for hearing.

A trial court in January this year Imaan Mazari and her husband Hadi Ali Chattha to seventeen years in prison.
