‘Doctor Bahu’ star opens up on why she follows her heart over social media numbers
Actor Hajra Yamin appeared on Buzz to join Hassan Choudary in a discussion regarding hierarchies and success in the entertainment industry.
Yamin, who is premiering in the new hit series Doctor Bahu, touched on her accomplishments in the industry, offering advice for fellow colleagues in the profession by speaking on her personal experiences and the set-rules she feels are embedded in the industry through decades of tradition. “One thing I am confident in and have full faith in is that I will be seen. You cannot ignore me,” she said.
Discussing roles in the industry, Yamin emphasised that importance should be given to actors, in spite of big or small roles. “A lot of the times, I am a young character actor. I’ve done other roles too but I would not like to confine myself,” she said.
The actor went on to discuss the problems of traditional hierarchies within the system. “ In the industry, it is well known that there is a hierarchy system that has been passed through tradition, such that side characters do not get over-filmed or overshadow main actors,” Yamin said. “This hierarchy is in the minds of the directors, the DOP, and everyone involved,” she added.
Regarding the matter, she said it is a “mental thing embedded in the system,” adding, “it’s because they are focused on one product, not on the whole thing.”
The actor also gave advice to her fellow colleagues, advising new actors to be strong. “I tell every actor that you should have enough confidence in yourself, your ability, and your talent that you will not be missed,” she shared. She also disagreed that having “less talent” is a thing. “They are still seen,” she assured.
Saying that some actors prefer a different approach to fame, Yamin stated, “we are working in an industry where everything has become a business, it’s all about numbers now.” She noted, “for me, as an individual and an artist, the Instagram life bothers me but some people have hacked that – if their numbers on social media are good in a way, they’ll get casted.” Adding to her thought, the actor stated that “people who are thinking in a business perspective, I’d say they are winning.”
However, she noted, “I’m not a business person, I really just follow my heart,” concluding by sharing her own battles with self-analysis. “People who know their weaknesses and strengths, they play by that. I do believe at the end of the day, if you are true to your art, nobody can stop you,” Yamin said, adding that when it comes jer, she does not look at her own work. “If the producer says I did good, I take his feedback to where I should approve,” she said.
