Interior minister echoes calls, says youth not seeking handouts but fair opportunities

Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, on Saturday, emphasised that reforming and restructuring the governance model is essential to meet the challenges of the modern digital age, saying the move is needed “more in this new era of digital speed than before.”
In a post on X, Khan said, “Reform and Restructure in the governance model is the only way forward. And it’s needed more in this new era of digital speed than before.”
He shared the statement alongside a 2018 post in which he highlighted structural weaknesses in governance and stressed the need for a service-oriented public administration.
“I agree our governance structure has collapsed in Balochistan and it is not interested in anything. If it would have been a proper service oriented provincial government then all would have been fine,” he had written. “The biggest task first is to make it fully functional as a public service delivery.”
By revisiting his earlier remarks, Khan reiterated that effective governance requires continuous institutional reform, restructuring and a stronger focus on efficient public service delivery.
Earlier this week, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called for the creation of additional administrative units or provinces to overhaul Pakistan’s “collapsed” governance system.
Addressing the Pakistan Economic Summit 2026, Naqvi said the current governance model had effectively “collapsed” after decades of failing to deliver. “Whether you agree or not, the system we have been living under has collapsed,” Naqvi said.
The minister warned that failure to reform could trigger unrest among the country’s youth. Naqvi said young people were not seeking welfare handouts but fair opportunities, demanding merit-based jobs and transparent recruitment.
