DC, DPO escape unhurt in ambush

Officials then set out for the government chromite factory in Muhammad Khel, also in tehsil Boya

MIRANSHAH:

Unidentified armed men opened fire on the convoy of North Waziristan’s Deputy Commissioner Taimur Khan Afridi and District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Hussain on Sunday, but both senior officers and their accompanying personnel escaped unhurt with no loss of life or property.

According to police, the two officials were touring tehsil Boya during the district-wide curfew to assess the overall situation, inspect security arrangements and review developmental and administrative matters. They also visited the proposed site for a new police station in Boya and directed relevant authorities to complete preliminary arrangements to strengthen the police presence in the area.

The officials then set out for the government chromite factory in Muhammad Khel, also in tehsil Boya.

On the way, gunmen lying in wait suddenly opened fire on their convoy. Security personnel immediately took protective measures, foiling the attackers’ designs. No one was injured and no damage was reported.

In view of the security situation, the Deputy Commissioner and DPO cancelled their visit.
