LAHORE:
The focus of Pakistan-China cooperation has evolved from infrastructure development to industrialisation, technological advancement, green energy, and sustainable economic growth, said Adeel Munawar, Commercial Ambassador of the Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI).
In a statement, he emphasised that while the first phase of CPEC successfully addressed critical infrastructure and energy challenges, CPEC 2.0 was presenting unprecedented opportunities to unlock Pakistan’s untapped economic potential through innovation-driven collaboration.
He noted that the completion of major transport networks, power generation projects, and Gwadar-related developments had laid a strong foundation for Pakistan’s economic transformation. The next stage of cooperation is now centred on the Special Economic Zones (SEZs), industry relocation, agricultural modernisation, information technology, renewable energy, and business-to-business partnerships.
Munawar highlighted that green development had emerged as a key pillar of CPEC 2.0. China’s remarkable achievements in renewable energy, electric mobility, and green manufacturing provide valuable opportunities for Pakistan to accelerate its transition towards a sustainable economy.
He observed that China continued to lead the world in solar and wind energy deployment, technological innovation, and clean energy investment, making it an ideal partner for Pakistan’s green development agenda.
Pakistan possesses immense potential in solar and wind energy, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, where vast renewable resources remain underutilised. “Through strategic cooperation under CPEC 2.0, Chinese investment and technology can help Pakistan develop large-scale renewable energy projects, strengthen transmission infrastructure, and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels,” he remarked.
