Motorways ban animal transport vehicles

RAWALPINDI:

The National Highways and Motorway Police has imposed a ban on the entry of vehicles carrying animals on motorways during Eidul Azha.

According to officials, overloaded, unfit and improperly loaded vehicles transporting animals often cause traffic accidents and congestion.

Therefore, such vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes instead of being allowed on motorways. Authorities said that in the past, vehicles carrying animals have been involved in several dangerous accidents, resulting in significant financial losses and casualties.

To ensure effective implementation, the police have requested the police departments of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) to establish checkpoints at motorway entry points and near cattle markets.

Officials stated that the measure was taken to ensure the safety of commuters travelling on motorways during the Eid season. As Eidul Azha draws near people rush to cattle markets to buy sacrificial animals which are transported to their residences on vans and mini-trucks.
