The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally.
“The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration,” PCB Director Media Amir Mir said in a post on X.
“At this stage, any speculative reports or unverified claims circulating on certain platforms, particularly those originating from hostile external sources, should not be regarded as credible,” said Mir, who also serves as an adviser to the PCB chairman.
“The PCB will not comment further at this time. The Board advises stakeholders and the public to rely on official PCB communications,” he added.
The PCB did not disclose the identity of anyone under investigation, the specific allegations or whether the inquiry involved players, coaches or other team officials.
The board has reportedly obtained mobile phone data from Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan as its inquiry into the players’ activities in London has allegedly widened.
According to sources, the investigation is examining not only the players’ activities but also their communications and contacts. If concrete evidence of wrongdoing emerges, the players could face heavy fines, disciplinary bans or exclusion from future Pakistan squads, the sources said.
Pakistan cricket has found itself in further turmoil following major changes to the squad after the heavy defeat to England in the Lord’s Test.
As many as seven players were sent home, along with head coach Sarfaraz Ahmad and bowling coach Umar Gul.
Mike Hesson, who normally oversees Pakistan’s white-ball teams, was subsequently tasked with taking charge of the red-ball side for the second Test at Edgbaston, which begins on Wednesday.
