PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to seek a loan from the World Bank to finance irrigation rehabilitation and flood protection projects in areas affected by recent floods.
Approval for obtaining the loan had been placed on the agenda of the provincial cabinet meeting. However, as the meeting was postponed, the proposal will now be taken up at the next cabinet session for approval.
Officials said the proposed World Bank financing would be used to strengthen flood protection infrastructure, rehabilitate damaged irrigation systems and enhance the province’s capacity to cope with future floods and reduce losses caused by natural disasters.
The cabinet will also consider the establishment of a new tehsil named Umarzai in Charsadda district. The proposal for the new administrative unit has been included in the agenda of the next meeting.
Other items on the cabinet agenda include amendments to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Police (Counter Terrorism Wing) Service Rules, 2026.
The cabinet will also consider a proposal to host three events of the South Asian Games in Peshawar and approve the funds required for organizing the competitions.
