Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and China’s Minister of State for Public Security and head of the Special Service Bureau, Ling Zhifeng, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation and deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
Naqvi is representing Pakistan at the two-day United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2026, being held at the UN headquarters in New York on July 7 and 8. The summit has brought together interior ministers, police chiefs, and senior UN officials from around the world to discuss how UN policing can better respond to evolving peace and security challenges, while strengthening international cooperation against transnational crime.
On the sidelines of the summit, Naqvi is also holding a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from several countries.
The two ministers agreed to expand cooperation on internal security, emphasising the need for closer collaboration on border management, illegal immigration, and anti-narcotics efforts.
Naqvi said there was a need to stop terrorist financing at every level and called for joint action against countries involved in supporting and financing terrorist groups.
He said Pakistan wanted to further strengthen security cooperation with China and noted that a Special Protection Police Force had been established to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals working in Pakistan.
The interior minister also underscored the importance of people-to-people contacts in strengthening bilateral ties, saying visa facilitation was essential in this regard.

The Chinese minister praised Pakistan’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism, saying the two countries should continue working together to combat the threat. He also said visa and immigration-related issues would be reviewed.
Sri Lankan counterpart
Earlier in a separate meeting, Naqvi met Sri Lanka’s Interior Minister Ananda Wijepala, where the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination in combating narcotics trafficking.
They also decided to enhance cooperation in police training and agreed to increase collaboration to curb illegal immigration and the use of forged passports.
The two ministers agreed that the heads of immigration authorities in both countries would establish immediate contact to advance cooperation.
They also discussed a memorandum of understanding on tackling criminal networks and money laundering and agreed to establish a joint working group between the two interior ministries to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Both sides further agreed to resolve visa-related issues on a priority basis.
