Renowned Indian playback singer Shaan is ready to swap the recording booth for the silver screen. After making a buzzworthy appearance in the thriller series Brown, the vocalist revealed that the acting bug has bitten him for good.
Although Shaan spent decades in the Indian music industry, his brief stint in the OTT space has potentially opened up an entirely new creative avenue for him. The singer admitted that the on-set experience changed his perspective on what he can achieve in front of the camera.
“My cameo in Brown has definitely encouraged me to give acting a serious shot,” Shaan said in an interview. He added, “It was an incredible experience and it made me realise how much I enjoy the process of bringing a character to life.”
Rather than viewing it as a one-off novelty, the singer said he is actively looking to explore complex roles that challenge him as a performer. “I don’t want to just do blink-and-miss appearances anymore. If the right script comes along, something with depth where I can truly test my boundaries as an actor, I am absolutely open to taking it up full-time,” he shared.
Shifting gears to his musical roots, Shaan reflected on how the industry gradually shifted away from traditional melodies toward short-form, algorithmic hits. He noted that the depth of music is harder to find in modern commercial cinema, but credited colleagues like Shankar Mahadevan for maintaining artistic integrity.
“The landscape of Bollywood playback music has changed drastically,” Shaan noted, adding that now, “There is a massive push for dynamic, instantly catchy tracks.” The singer stated, “When I look at friends like Shankar Mahadevan, I am always in awe of how he effortlessly bridges that gap. He brings a deep, classical mastery into mainstream music without ever losing the contemporary pulse. It’s that kind of timeless quality we need more of today.”
Further, while Shaan acknowledged that modern digital platforms allow independent tracks to instantly reach millions, he cautioned that the constant need for visibility may disrupt an artist’s creative focus.
Behind the glamour of the entertainment industry, the singer highlighted that his ultimate peace comes from a completely different space: his devotional music.
“No matter where my career takes me, whether it is music or acting, I find my true peace in devotion,” Shaan shared. He added, “Singing devotional songs and connecting with a higher power is what keeps me grounded amid all the noise of showbiz. It fulfils my soul in a way nothing else can.”
As fans look forward to seeing him land his next script, Shaan proved that it is never too late to reinvent oneself.
