Justice Khan becomes IHC senior puisne judge

The seniority of judges at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reshuffled after three judges transferred to different provincial high courts; Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan is now the senior puisne judge.

Last week, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) approved the transfer of Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz to the Lahore High Court, the Peshawar High Court and the Sindh High Court, respectively, by a majority vote.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani previously held the position of senior puisne judge. Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan will now serve as the second most senior judge in the court until new appointments or transfers occur.

The registrar also issued a new roster for the upcoming week, effective from May 4 until further orders. According to the schedule, seven single benches and four division benches will hear cases.

A special division bench comprising Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir has been formed to hear tax-related cases.

Justice Muhammad Asif will serve on multiple benches, including division benches dealing with criminal and other cases. The first division bench will consist of Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif.

The second division bench will include Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, while the third bench will comprise Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Muhammad Asif.

The fourth division bench will consist of Justice MuhammadAzam Khan and Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas. The newly issued roster outlines the court’s functioning for the coming week and will remain in force until further notice.
